On Sunday, the defense conference People and Defense began in Sälen, and in the morning the animals arrived one by one at the ski resort.
First came the party leader of the Social Democrats Magdalena Andersson, a little later Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Defense Minister Pål Jonsson arrived, and then they were joined by Finland’s Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto.
In between, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia and Crown Princess Victoria managed to attend the national conference.
Before a small press gathering, the king emphasized the importance of being able to meet and participate in such contexts and stressed how important it is to raise defense issues, especially in times like these when a major war rages not far from Sweden’s borders.
– The way the world looks right now, we have to take this very seriously. That is why it is so good that everyone is gathered, from different groups in society, said the king.
