Fierce fighting is ongoing in northern Donetsk. The town of Bachmut is in Ukrainian hands, but Russian troops are doing everything to try to take the town and the surrounding villages. The inhabitants who are still left live with constant grenade attacks. The ceasefire that Russian President Putin promised has not applied at all, according to news agencies on the ground in eastern Ukraine.
A Reuters television crew was trying to get to safety when suddenly shelling was heard in the middle of an interview with 75-year-old Olga Vasylivna on a street in Bachmut. She and around 10,000 other residents have not fled the city, but have chosen to stay.
– Our city was so beautiful before. It was clean and tidy, she manages to tell the Reuters team, before they have to leave to seek shelter. Olga Vasylivna, however, carries on with her bags of food, sober after living through six months of shelling.
