The detective adventure Sherlock is considered by many fans to be one of the best series of all time. For four seasons they could watch the investigator with the hunting hat solving the trickiest cases. According to creator Steven Moffat could start work on season 5 tomorrow, were it not for two obstacles. Namely the main actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman.
Work on Sherlock Season 5 could start tomorrow, but Marvel is in the way
Moffat explained this to BBC Today. He has already planned season 5 and is up with co-author Mark Gatiss some of their best ideas ever came up. Preparations could start only Cumberbatch and Freeman would have to return. But they are now “to bigger and better things” appointed.
The careers of the two stars have changed a lot since Sherlock began in 2010. Both play MCU heroes and Cumberbatch in particular is as Doctor Strange heavily tied into the Marvel screen universe. In 2021, he told Esquire that he felt it was still too early to bring back the British detective.
When is Sherlock season 5 coming?
This is a disappointment to anyone who was hoping for a Sherlock return anytime soon. But at least there is apparently a story direction with good ideas that, in case of doubt, could go straight into production. Looking at Cumberbatch and Freeman’s schedules is ahead 2025 however, not to be expected with a 5th season.
