A month before the release of the film directed by Guillaume Canet, a new trailer for “Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire” tells us more.

Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire, directed by Guillaume Canet, will be released in cinemas on February 1, 2023, opening the ball for big-budget French comedies for this new cinema year. A new trailer was unveiled this Thursday, January 5 and tells us more about the plot of this new episode

In “The Middle Kingdom”, Asterix and Obelix come to the aid to a Chinese princess to save her mother, the empress, overthrown following a coup d’etat. They will also have to face the armies of Caesar on their way. In the cast of this new film, a myriad of stars will parade on screen: Guillaume Canet and Gilles Lellouche embody the two heroes, opposite Marion Cotillard as Cleopatra and Vincent Cassel as Julius Caesar. We also find Jonathan Cohen, Ramzy Bedia, José Garcia, Manu Payet, Pierre-Richard, Philippe Katerine or even Angèle and Zlatan Ibrahimovic in this feature film. Check out the latest trailer below.

The filming of Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom began in the spring of 2021, after a one-year postponement due to the health crisis linked to the coronavirus. An unknown time, the release date of Guillaume Canet’s film has finally been revealed: we will be able to discover the Chinese adventures of the irreducible Gauls on February 1, 2023.

What budget for the film?

An article from variety published on January 18, 2020 announced that Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom should have a production budget of 65 million euros (over $72 million). The film will also be co-produced by Chinese investors. The budget, in the nails of previous Asterix and Obelix films, should allow, as producer Alain Attal announced in the American magazine, “to build a village, to stage gigantic battles with many extras, but also to ‘have a lot of special effects and, of course, a very high-profile cast and a few cameos’.
