Any analysts who thought that the PS5’s $50 price increase would hurt the popularity of the machine are sadly mistaken. More than 30 million PS5s sold in just two years, Sony Interactive Entertainment can be relieved, and thank the end-of-year celebrations which allowed the machine to break a new record. This month of December 2022 is indeed the biggest month ever recorded since the release of the console in November 2020. It must be said that shortages have greatly decreased since the health crisis and that it is now much easier to obtain a machine. It was indeed during his keynote at CES 2023 in Las Vegas that Jim Ryan, President of Sony Interactive Entertainment, mentioned these figures, recalling in passing that in November 2022, the PS5 had sold 25 million copies. It is therefore 5 million units sold in the space of a few weeks. We therefore note a strong acceleration in sales during the end-of-year celebrations (logical), but these should not weaken if the Japanese manufacturer still manages to produce as much, since demand is still just as strong.
