Swedish star Frida Karlsson cemented his position at the top of the Tour de Ski overall when he won the 20km pursuit race in Oberstdorf. Karlsson still had to fight for a tight victory over the Finn Krista Pärmäkoski against.

Pärmäkoski raced 16 seconds back to Karlsson’s position and passed, but the Swede was stronger in the final race. Karlsson won the race with 14.1 seconds.

However, the race could have ended in quite a disaster for Karlsson.

After the competition, Karlsson told the Swedish public broadcasting company SVT that he had messed up the bills. At the end of the fourth lap, he no longer knew how much he had skied. On Wednesday, a 3.3 kilometer run was skied six times in Oberstdorf.

Karlsson shouted to the Swedish team management, which round he was on.

– I shouted to all the leaders what round I was in. It gets messy when there’s so much going on, Karlsson said according to SVT. (you switch to another service)

According to Karlsson, not everyone always gets confused by rounds, but he does. If Karlsson had not received information about his number of laps, the consequences would have been drastic.

– Then I might have finished the race after five laps, Karlsson said and pointed to how he could have finished the race 3.3 kilometers before his time.

Pärmäkoski went after Karlsson in the day’s race together with Norway Tiril Udnes Wengin and Anne Kjersti Kalvån with. It was in the aforementioned fourth round that the Norwegians fell off the ride.

– It was really difficult right from the beginning. I stayed with Pärmäkoski and Tiril until we caught Frida. After that I was done. Then it was just a fight to get to the finish line, Kalvå described to Urheilu.

Tiril Udnes Weng, who leads the overall World Cup competition, also stated that the race was tough.

– Krista was so strong. I had trouble keeping up with him, Weng told Urheilu.
