PreParE shared benefit how much are you entitled to

With each birth of a child, you can benefit from PreParE if you have ceased or reduced your professional activity to take care of your baby under three years of age. Conditions, amounts revalued with the purchasing power law and duration.

What is the Shared Child Raising Benefit?

The “free choice of activity supplement” (CLCA) became in 2015 the “shared child education benefit” (PreParE)following the law on real equality between women and men passed in 2014. This parental leave was intended to encourage fathers to devote more time to the birth of the baby, and encourage mothers to return to the labor market more quickly in order to contribute to the reduction of professional inequalities linked to the arrival of a child. . Concretely, this aid allows young parents to reduce or stop their professional activity to take care of their baby under the age of three, in a more equitable way. This shared child-raising benefit aims to partially compensate for the reduction in income within the household.

What is the amount of the PreParE in 2023?

The amount of the PreParE is calculated based on your situation and your activity rate. Thus, until March 31, 2023, the amount of shared child-rearing benefit amounts to :

  • €422.21 per month in the event of total cessation of activity,
  • at 272.84 euros per month for a duration less than or equal to half-time,
  • €157.44 per month for a working time of between 50% and 80%.

This benefit can be granted to one parent only or to both, who can receive it at the same time or successively. If you choose to accumulate two PreParE simultaneously with your spouse, the amount of the two benefits cannot exceed the highest amount, namely 422.21 euros.

What is the duration of the PreParE?

parental leave which was mainly taken by the mother, is now shared more equally between both parents. It is therefore more equitable. Thus, the duration of this leave compensated by the Family Allowance Fund increases from 6 months maximum to one year if both parents stop working when it comes to their first child. These 12 months are therefore to be shared between the two parents, for a duration of 6 months maximum each. For the second baby, PREPARE can be paid to parents until their child is three years old (and up to the age of 6 if you have given birth to triplets). To benefit from it, however, parents must share the duration of parental leave since a parent can only take a maximum of 2 years. It is therefore up to the second to take the remaining 12 months to reach the child’s three years.

Can the duration of parental leave be extended or renewed?

The payment of the PreParE allowance can be extended under certain conditions, in particular if you have two dependent children, your income is below the ceiling for the family supplement or if you have not found a place in a nursery or other mode of care for your baby. In this case, you continue to receive the benefit until the month of September following your child’s birthday deadline. Otherwise, the duration of parental leave can be extended. If you have chosen to take a year off for the birth of your child, it is possible to renew its duration twice so that your leave ends no later than the day of your child’s third birthday. However, be aware that the benefit in the amount of 422.21 per month (for a total cessation of activity) is paid to each parent for a period of six months, before the child’s first birthday. It is therefore necessary to take into account the fact of not receiving this benefit in the event of an extension of the duration of parental leave, which can be granted up to 3 years.

The duration of payment of the PréParE varies according to the number of dependent children and the family situation. It therefore does not necessarily coincide with the duration of parental leave (which may be longer). For example, for a couple with only one dependent child, the benefit of 422.21 euros per month is paid for 6 months to each parent within the limit of the child’s 1st birthday, while parental leave can be granted up to on the child’s 3rd birthday.

Who can benefit from PreParE?

  • All parents whose children are aged less than 3 years old (or under 20 in case of adoption). and who cease their professional activity.
  • Parents who work part-time or plan to do so to care for their children are also affected.
  • To qualify, you must have at least 8 quarters in the last two years if it is a first child, in the last four years if it is a second child and in the last five years for a third child. In addition, no pension, unemployment benefit, daily allowance from health insurance or paid leave should be received for benefit from the PreParE.
  • Finally, the PreParE can be attributed to only one parent or to both. They can perceive it at the same time or successively.

What is the duration of the PreParE payment?

The duration of parental leave payment depends on your family situation, especially if you already have children. If you live as a couple, for example, be aware that both parents can benefit from this benefit for a period of up to 24 months, until the third birthday of the youngest. If you live alone, the PreParE can be granted to you until the third birthday of your child. However, if you and your spouse choose to cease your activity during the same month, the total amount of the two rights cannot be combined: it will then be limited to the amount of a single full rate, namely 422.21 euros per month.
