Police are investigating shooting in Wallaceburg that left a man in hospital with serious injuries.
At roughly 7 am on Dec. 30, officers responded to the area of Murray and Earl streets after reports of a disturbance.
Officers then learned a 42-year-old man had been involved in an altercation with an unnamed suspect – or suspects – before being shot with an unspecified firearm.
The man was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, police said.
“Members of the major crime section continue to investigate and ask that anyone with video surveillance in the areas of Murray Street, Wallace Street and Earl Street to please contact police,” the police force said in a release later that same day
“This is an isolated incident, and there is no concern for public safety.”
Police said the suspect or suspects are unknown at this point.
Initially, there were few details available about the shooting. The force’s mobile incident command unit, as well as several cruisers, were at the scene while officers came and went throughout the morning.
“All I heard so far is it’s a shooting,” said Bill Millman, who lives near the corner where the road was closed.
Residing in the neighborhood for 25 years, he said there has occasionally been police activity in the area, noting there was a robbery a few years ago.
Clara Broad, another Wallaceburg resident, was trying to visit a friend on Murray Street only to find it closed.
She called the situation unsettling for residents, “especially when they have the roads blocked off.”
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Const. Shawn Tremblay at [email protected] or 519-436-6600 ext. 618.
