The 5 best horror movies of 2022 and where to.webp

Choosing the best horror films of the year is not that easy. 2022 had plenty of hits for genre fans and without any problems we could present you with at least one top 10. We still wanted to narrow the list down further. So I decided on five horror films that I personally want to introduce and recommend to you from the strong cinema year 2022.

The best horror movies of 2022 – 5th place: Bodies Bodies Bodies

Bodies Bodies Bodies – Trailer (German) HD

The mix of rough horror and biting Zoomer reckoning is the better scream 5. For Bodies Bodies Bodies, director Halina Reijn captures the attitude towards life of Generation Z, who throws Twitter buzzwords at each other without any sense or reason. Unsurprisingly, she (with a potential killer beneath her) despairs of the real world.

Without pointing fingers, the horror film is staged with playful malice, while the stylish Bodies Bodies Bodies, laid out somewhere between Spring Breakers, Heathers and Friday the 13th, always strikes the right tone exaggerated slasher festival and witty satire meets.

The best horror movies of 2022 – 4th place: Crimes of the Future

Crimes of the Future – Trailer (German) HD

As the master of body horror, David Cronenberg’s return has been highly anticipated eight years after Maps to the Stars. His new feature film combines dystopian Nightmare images with exciting ideas about the future of a humanity that has already gone through all the possibilities of transformation.

Grotesque bodies, lustful surgeries and bizarre acts in between portrays Cronenberg almost elegantly, while his post-apocalyptic world is reduced and at the same time atmospherically comes to life. Above all, Crimes of the Future turns out to be a consistent post-body horror film about forming a new human existence amidst all the bizarre fits.

The best horror movies of 2022 – 3rd place: Fresh

Fresh – Trailer (German) HD

Dating life can be hell and Fresh shows the most terrifying version of it. Mimi Cave’s superb feature film debut begins misleadingly as a likable indie comedy about shallow dating apps, awkward meetings, loneliness and frustration. After half an hour the opening credits start in Fresh and we are with protagonist Noa (Normal People star Daisy Edgar-Jones) landed in a nightmare.

With oppressive tension and black humorous tips, the director packs the scenario into chic images, while the horror often presents itself as morbid mental cinema. And Marvel star Sebastian Stan takes care of his cannibalistic-uncomfortable role that you are guaranteed to see your next plate of spaghetti bolognese with different eyes after the film.

The best horror movies of 2022 – 2nd place: The Menu

The Menu – Trailer (German) HD

The exquisite and exclusive dinner of a select group of guests becomes a succession of shocking and bitter surprises in The Menu. Mark Mylod’s film is commemorated by the hilarious reckoning with the elite at the celebrated Triangle of Sadness.

Compared to Ruben Östlund’s film, The Menu is about three quarters of an hour shorter and even more evil, while Ralph Fiennes as the devilish chef is more unleashed than he has been for a long time. Like him throwing the great cast into the abysswhile food porn and fine dining obsessions grow to the elusive chunk is the biggest horror treat of 2022.

The Menu started in German cinemas on November 17th and is not yet available for home cinema or pre-order.

The best horror films of 2022 – 1st place: Nope

Nope – Trailer 2 (German) HD

Following his hits Get Out and Wir, Jordan Peele is up with one gripping film somewhere between western, horror and science fiction returned. Virtually a blockbuster compared to the director’s previous works, Nope nonetheless comes with Peele’s trademark audiovisual brilliance and unleashes some incredibly chilling scenes.

Combining elements of the invasion terror of Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and the animal horror menace of Jaws, Nope is a spectacular mix of genres alongside a barely comprehensible threat in the clouds also cleverly tells of the attraction of the spectacle and the dangerous abysses in it.
