A 43-year-old man in Helsingborg has been sentenced to pay SEK 92,000 after biting a police officer on the hand.

The man was taken into custody drunk with over two percent alcohol in his blood and when he was about to be driven to the arrest he bit a policeman on the hand and refused to let go, writes Helsingborg’s daily newspaper.

According to the policeman, the man bit two fingers so hard that his eyes turned black even though he was wearing gloves. And when he tried to break free, the man refused to let go.

Even pepper spray didn’t help and it took several minutes before the man let go and instead attacked another policeman.

The bite went through the gloves and it took a week for the wound to heal and a month and a half for the fingers to fully recover.

The man is now sentenced for violent resistance and violence against an official to a suspended sentence and 48,000 kroner in fines, 5,000 kroner in damages to the policeman, 800 kroner to the crime victim’s fund and attorney’s fees of kroner 38,300.
