Fireworks display canceled – due to hazardous weather
After two years of pandemic, Luleå’s traditional New Year’s fireworks were to celebrate the new year at Södra hamnen.
But now the municipality has canceled it at the last moment, reports Norrbottens-Kuriren.
The weather is causing it with snow and wind gusts up to 11 meters per second due to safety reasons.
– It is extremely sad, but after a safety analysis together with our pyrotechnicians, we have concluded that it is not possible to carry out the fireworks in a safe way, says Örjan Esensjö, responsible for the New Year’s celebration at Luleå municipality, to the newspaper.
It will also be windy in Umeå. Up to 13 meters per second are expected there in the gusts. But there the fireworks celebration will be held as usual, reports VK.
– We are driving, there are no problems at all. They have snow storms up there, the rubbish weather we had a day ago. We would have canceled if it had been the weather now, but here it looks like it will be great. It should be clear and 1 degree at 12, says Martin Uddestrand, project manager for the New Year’s fireworks.

New Year’s fireworks are canceled after threats
On New Year’s Eve, the new year would be celebrated with fireworks in the inner harbor in Örnsköldsvik.
But it is canceled after the organizers received several threats, reports Örnsköldsvik’s Allehanda.
“Very unpleasant that people who want to make a nice event for 95 percent of Örnsköldsvik’s citizens are threatened. Umeå and Sundsvall shoot at full blast, but in Örnsköldsvik there will be no collected, nice, well-ordered fireworks this year. Even though everything was within laws and regulations,” writes the organizer Jörgen Schulze in a text message to the newspaper.

The future looks pitch black for animal life on Earth.
At best, 10-15 percent of all animal species will have died out by the year 2100 – assuming global warming and habitat destruction are curbed.
If we continue as we do today, 30 percent of animal species risk extinction.
This is shown by two new studies, writes TT.
The studies show that thousands of animal species are in the scales. The researchers have evaluated the situation of roughly 87,000 animal species – of which 3,877 are classified as acutely threatened.

The family-owned candy manufacturer Bubs is bought by the Norwegian food giant Orkla, writes Gothenburg Post.
Bubs manufactures some of the country’s most popular candies – not least the classic raspberry licorice shell.
The journey began in Huskvarna in Småland in 1992 when Ulrik Lindström started candy production together with his older brother and his parents.
The name Bubs comes from the family members Bernt, Ulrik, Birgitta and Stefan.
The movement has grown strongly over the years and had a turnover of 211 million in the last financial year.
– It has been a fantastically fun trip, but in the end we got a little fed up with all the investing. The downside is that the responsibility increases the better it goes, says Ulrik Lindström, production manager, to Göteborgs-Posten.
The price for the sale is kept secret by the parties.
