The government and the Sweden Democrats want to find out in an investigation whether mother tongue teaching in school leads to poorer integration and language learning. SD hopes that the investigation will lead to the disappearance of mother tongue teaching.
– That is our hope, but we cannot preempt the investigation, said Patrick Reslow (SD), member of the education committee, to SVT Nyheter earlier on Friday.
But when Education Minister Lotta Edholm comments on SD’s actions, she is clear that there is no such proposal in the Tidö Agreement.
– What we agree on is to investigate mother tongue teaching. After all, we have had many more children and young people from other countries in recent years, and there are big differences in the quality of mother tongue teaching, says Lotta Edholm.
