Two boys, aged 14 and 15, were arrested after the shooting at an apartment building in Gubbängen in southern Stockholm last Wednesday evening.
Now the 15-year-old has been detained on probable cause on suspicion of attempted murder and serious weapons offences. The younger one is released at large.
– It is mainly because of his age that he is no longer deprived of his liberty, says Chamber Prosecutor Karin Hammar.
Large number of shots at the “wrong” apartment
Earlier on Wednesday, around 07:30, several shots were fired at a balcony in the same apartment building, for which the teenagers are not suspected.
Therefore, for investigative purposes, and to carry out security measures, the police must have been on site at the address in question when the shooting occurred in the evening.
Shortly after witnesses saw perpetrators armed with automatic weapons flee from there, a patrol was able to quickly capture them. This is according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna.
– The teenagers basically ran straight into the police and they were more or less caught red-handed, says an informant.
An AK47 automatic carbine was found discarded nearby.
– It is true that weapons have been confiscated, says Karin Kammar.
Chased by social services
The police’s theory is that the 14- and 15-year-old shot into a home that was not intended as a target, according to TV4 Nyhetern’s information. Between 20 and 30 shots were fired through the apartment door.
– The home that was shot at earlier in the morning, however, can be linked to a criminal network, says TV4’s source.
Both teenagers are known to social authorities and were on the run from an HVB home when they were arrested, according to information given to TV4 Nyheterna. Just days before the crime, the 15-year-old is now in custody because the administrative court approved the social service’s decision that he should immediately receive LVU care due to the fact that, among other things, he was charged with robbery and assault in a court case, and because he “was in risky environments where drugs and crime exist.”
Spiral of violence in Stockholm’s underworld
Stockholm has recently been hit by several violent crimes.
According to information to TV4 Nyheterna, the police are investigating a connection between a murder on Christmas Day in Rinkeby, a hand grenade attack in Enskededalen on Tuesday and the shots against the balcony on Wednesday morning in Gubbängen.
The theory is that it is a spiral of violence after the murder of the artist Nils “Einár” Grönberg last fall.
