Samir Abu Eid: Palestinians worried as settlers strengthened by new government

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Israel has received its most right-wing, religious and nationalist government ever, according to several experts. For the Palestinians in Israel, but above all in the West Bank, this is bad news, says SVT’s Middle East correspondent Samir Abu Eid.

It will probably also put the nail in the coffin for a two-state solution.

– The Palestinians are worried about what this will lead to. Now it’s about how the outside world will react, says Abu Eid in SVT’s Morgonstudion.

One of the top priorities of Israel’s new far-right government is expanding settlements in the Palestinian West Bank, which has been occupied by Israel since 1967.

In the territory where today over 2.5 million Palestinians, there are also today approximately 500,000 Israeli settlers, but these may now be more. The majority of the world’s countries consider the settlements to be illegal, according to TT.

– Now it is feared that this will get even worse. The settlers feel empowered by the new government, says Samir Abu Eid.
