Montana has always made me dream since mythical books and films have praised its natural beauty. Located east of the Rocky Mountains, just south of the Canadian border, Montana was sold by Napoleon at the same time as Louisiana in 1803. Thus, like Quebec, Montana and much of the present-day territory of the United States could have remained French or French-speaking!
It is also one of the only regions in the world whose waters flow into three oceans: if the Yellowstone River (originating from the American national park of the same name which extends just south of Montana) flows towards Missouri and the Gulf of Mexico, other rivers flow towards the Pacific Ocean, others still join Canada and end up in Hudson Bay.
The discovery of gold,silver and of copper made Montana rich: in 1888, there were more millionaires per capita in its capital, Helena, than in any other part of the world.
