The US and Brazil remain on alert for COVID while Bolivia begins de-escalation
Most countries in the Americas continue to register high numbers of COVID infections due to the Omicron variant and, although the increase in infections has been easing in nations like Bolivia, the region remains on alert due to the rise in serious cases and deaths.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), the American continent, with nearly 140 million infectionsis no longer the region of the world with the highest number of infections, as it has been surpassed by Europewhich accumulates 155.5 million confirmed cases.
However, in terms of deaths, America maintains the worst records globallyhim: of the 5.7 million deaths by COVID on the planet, around 44% of deaths (2.53 million) correspond to this continent.
