It is done ! #Avatar2 has just crossed LE BILLION at the box office after 15 days. Another 1 billion extra to be profitable.

In just 15 days, Avatar 2 therefore does better than other blockbusters such as Black Panther Wakanda Forever (803 million), The Minions 2: Once Upon a Time Gru (939 million) or even Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ( 955 million). We also recall that in 2022, only two other films managed to exceed one billion at the global box office, namely Jurassic World 3 Dominion (The World After) with 1 billion dollars and Top Gun Maverick and its 1 .4 billion and a fan favorite. Where James Cameron’s film is strong is this ability to maintain a high frequency over the weeks, which means that word of mouth works very well and the Christmas holidays push families and spectators to go to cinemas, knowing that many people will see it several times, often to test several different cinematographic experiences (Dolby Cinema, IMAX, 4DS, Screen X).

Despite this mind-blowing performance, Avatar 2 has not yet achieved its only profitability, the film having to make at least 2 billion to earn money. As a reminder, its budget is estimated at 450 million dollars, to which must be added marketing expenses (probably around 100 to 150 million dollars), and all that the distributors and cinema operators in the film will pocket also on their side. If for James Cameron, it is necessary to reach 2 billion, for Variety, the break-even point of the film would be around 1.5 billion in revenue. The truth must lie between the two.
