A new game with an ambitious genre mix has been released on Steam. Cygnus Enterprises is a single-player game and a top-down shooter that combines RPG elements and base building. MeinMMO briefly introduces you to the early access game.
The Steam gaming platform is a treasure trove for gamers. Without exception, new PC games are released every day, but the quality of some titles shouldn’t be the issue today.
In such a jungle of offers, it is sometimes difficult to discover the good niche games that surprisingly cost you two weeks of free time.
The early access game Cygnus Enterprises could be such a game. In its current state, it offers little content. But many commentators on Steam see a lot of potential in the game. Reason enough for us to briefly present the single-player title.

Cygnus Enterprises brings fresh genre mix
What is the game about? You land on a faraway planet and are supposed to bring an old base back into shape. The environment offers lush flora and fauna – one alien is more colorful than the other, green landscapes characterize your environment.
For the necessary resources you complete missions and collect loot from all corners and ends of the thriving planet. Gradually you bring the base back to life, procure and employ workers, construct new buildings to expand your skills.
The whole thing is supported by a main story that takes you through 17 handcrafted missions in which you learn more about the planet and its inhabitants.

How does that go? You shoot your way through the world in a top-down view and collect all possible resources to repair and expand your base. Defenses are also part of the base, should creatures venture too close to your base.
6 different RPG classes with their own skill trees provide variety in the shooter gameplay. The level system is very open, lets you mix and match skills of the classes and put together your own builds.
You get resources and thus progress through the main and side missions. The side missions can be repeated as often as you like, so you can keep playing even after the main story is over.
Expanding the base, special boss opponents, different biomes, character customization and a crafting system are also among the core features.
You can get Cygnus Enterprises for €24.99 in Early Access. The developers state that it currently takes around 12 hours to play the entire campaign.
What do players say about this? The game is currently relatively unknown, but has already garnered quite a few fans on Steam. Of the 63 user reviews, 74% are positive, which corresponds to the rating “Mostly positive” (via steam.com / as of: 12/28/22).
Players particularly praise the refreshing gameplay because the crazy genre mix fits. User “Be_The_Chosen_One” means something like:
The game is a mix of different genres. A new experience that feels fresh and interesting as there is always a new aspect of the game to discover. From building my base to upgrading my character to automating my facility to be self-sufficient”
The good graphics and the aliens are also praised, some of which are said to be so cute that you can only kill them with a bad conscience.
The performance with high graphics settings and the currently somewhat low content are often criticized. Some people had also expected an open world from the trailer and were disappointed that the missions were rather straightforward.
