new tools for AI

Projects are multiplying around ChatGPT, OpenAI’s revolutionary AI! Independent developers already offer a computer application and a Chrome extension allowing voice chat with artificial intelligence.

ChatGPT, OpenAI’s conversational artificial intelligence, continues to be emulated on the Internet! Unveiled to the general public in early December, it amazes with its capabilities and ease of use. Indeed, the AI is able to write in a few seconds a text that a human being would take hours to write, to answer complex questions, to code, to solve equations, to engage in debates and even to refuse to respond to requests deemed incorrect, all in a natural way (see our article). So natural that it is sometimes difficult to differentiate its responses from those given by a human. Cover letter, DIY tutorials, press articles, scripts for series… The uses are multiplying and, unsurprisingly, it is the students who are the first to benefit from them. They see it as a valuable time saver as well as the possibility of getting a good grade without too much effort. Of course, ChatGPT is not immune to error – it even happens very often – and it still has a rather poor style and vocabulary – but the AI remains perfect for a clear and constructed start of reasoning. , or at least have a logical backbone that holds together. But the fact remains that, given the speed at which this technology is advancing, it should soon be able to deceive – much to the chagrin of teachers, whose anti-cheat tools cannot detect deception. It is therefore hardly surprising that some developers have already taken hold of AI to develop different tools and make the most of it.

ChatGPT app: a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux

ChatGPT is accessible online through a web browser but an independent developer has designed a desktop application for Windows, macOS and Linux. A way to have artificial intelligence always on hand while enjoying a few more functions. Thus, the user can keep the application window in the foreground thanks to the Stay on Top function, which turns out to be rather practical to fully exploit the technology. Other welcome additions: the ability to save the various responses in PNG or PDF format – and thus keep track of their exchanges – and share them with someone else in the form of a link.

It is also possible to create custom commands to ask ChatGPT questions more quickly, with predefined questions using command prompts. Many ready-to-use models are already being traded, proof that the formula is of interest to many people. Note that the application is open source and is on GitHub, which means that anyone can access the source code and modify it, and thus create new functions to adapt the tool to their needs. The application is still in its infancy – version 0.72 was released on December 27 – but we imagine that it will evolve very quickly, given the enthusiasm generated by ChatGPT. It is therefore more than likely that a mobile app will soon appear on Android and iOS, whether offered by an independent developer or by OpenAI.

Talk-to-ChatGPT: an extension to chat aloud with AI

ChatGPT also has the right to its own extension for Chrome, Talk-to-ChatGPT so that the user can chat with the AI through his microphone. Thanks to Google Chrome’s voice recognition and text-to-speech technologies – which allows the extension to support different languages, including French – she responds via a synthesized voice. A way to have a more natural, interactive and fluid “conversation” with ChatGPT without having to write with your keyboard.

The extension comes in the form of a small window on the right with different icons allowing you to:

  • Activate or deactivate voice recognition: this option allows you to ask questions out loud to ChatGPT using its microphone.
  • Enable or disable ChatGPT Text-to-Speech: This feature allows ChatGPT responses to be read using Google Text-to-Speech.
  • Instantly stop ChatGPT’s responses being read aloud: This button allows you to stop ChatGPT’s responses being read aloud at any time.
  • Open extension settings: this allows you to choose the voice and language of the AI’s text-to-speech, as well as to set its speed when reading aloud.

The extension is free and available open source on GitHub. To install it on Chrome, just go to the Chrome Web Store.
