In our POCO M5 review content, we take a closer look at the phone’s general features, camera performance and user experience.
We are here with the POCO M5 review, which is one of the models that is curious with its price and features. I’ve been testing the phone for two weeks and in this video we’ll look at both the user experience and the camera performance together.
POCO M5 review
Design
Let’s start with the design of the phone first. Because in the design, a structure that we do not see often and that we are not very accustomed to was used. When we look at the back of the device, we see that a leather-like plastic structure is used. This both puts the device in a different and stylish structure in terms of design and makes it very resistant to impacts. Moreover, the trouble of many phones, such as fingerprints, has been minimized. This different structure on the back is animated with a wide strip that includes the camera array. Here we also see the flash light along with the triple camera array.
When we look at the front, the POCO M5 appears with a drop notch. The frame structure is at a good level for its segment. With a 6.58-inch screen, a screen-to-body ratio of 83% has been achieved. The 90 Hz refresh rate on this screen, which has a resolution of 1080 x 2408, is an important advantage.
The fingerprint sensor of the phone is located on the right under the volume up and down buttons. Frankly, I do not like this structure, which is also used as a power button. Because when you take the phone in your hand, hold it in your palm, even while walking on the road, it tries to scan your palm as if you are trying to open it. Fortunately, apart from the fingerprint sensor, the facial recognition feature also works very fast.
There is a sim card slot on the left side of the phone, and a speaker grille with a Type C port on the bottom. When we look at the top, we see the 3.5mm jack input. On the usage side, apart from the fingerprint sensor, it was a model that I liked very much. Despite its weight of 201 grams, it is ergonomically comfortable to use.
POCO M5 performance details
When we move on to the technical specifications, we see MediaTek’s Helio G99 processor on the phone. This processor is a processor used in price-performance-oriented phones recently. It is one of the top processors in the G series and does a good job for its segment in terms of performance. Apart from this processor with 8 cores and 6 nm architecture, the phone has two different versions on the Ram and Storage side.
Our version has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. Apart from that, you can also get 6GB Ram and 128GB versions if you wish. Frankly, there is a difference of 150 – 200 TL in price. For this reason, I definitely recommend you to buy the 6 GB version. Fortunately, the phone has dual sim support as well as SD card support. As you know, 64 and 128 GB may be insufficient in today’s conditions. It is possible to increase this rate with an SD card.
In our tests, we see that the processor scored 550 in single-core and 1934 in multi-core. When we look at the game side, you can play productions such as PUBG, CoD Mobile or Genshin Impact fluently. But of course you need to lower the graphics settings.
On the performance side, I did not encounter any problems in daily use. The interface is stable and a smooth usage is provided with a 90 Hz refresh rate. Sometimes I encountered very rare hangs in the search section, but other than that, I can say that I like its performance.
POCO M5 camera performance
Let’s move on to the camera performance. On the back of the phone, as I mentioned at the beginning, there is a triple camera. Our main camera is 50 MP and has an aperture of f1.8. This camera has classic features such as HDR, scene detection and portrait mode. Apart from that, there is a depth camera with 2.4 aperture and a macro camera with 2MP again.
Just like the main camera, a good light source is essential for macro shots. So when you shoot with proper light, you can capture really nice frames. However, as the light source decreases, effects such as tingling become more evident. In night mode, it is possible to take slightly clearer photos as it receives the light better.
On the front, there is a 5 MP selfie camera with portrait mode. It has 1080P 30 FPS video recording on both the front and back. Obviously, 60 FPS could have been better, but we can say that even in the top segments of android phones, video works have just started on their way. Naturally, it is not possible to shoot very vlog-style shots with the models in this segment. Stabilization distress and light burst effects are evident.
The POCO M5 model, which also has Bluetooth 5.3 support, has a full 5,000 mAh battery. Considering that the processor also works with performance, it offers a very comfortable use. Especially if you use it in 60 FPS mode, it is possible to extend the battery time even more. The phone also supports 18W fast charging.
As a result, the POCO M5 model, which has the MI UI 13 interface, is one of the best models you can buy in this segment for its price. As you know, the prices have skyrocketed, we see that phones with these features now start from the 7.5 – 8k band. Therefore, an advantage is provided in terms of price. But if you say you want to buy it, as I mentioned at the beginning, I recommend you to buy the 6GB version instead of the 4GB version we tested.
