December 25, 2022 is the date chosen by Netflix to launch its new self-produced series: The Witcher Blood Origin. It is a mini-series of 4 episodes supposed to tell us the origins of the “conjunction of the spheres” and also that of the lore of The Witcher, thehen the worlds of monsters, men and elves merged into one. With a cast made up of Michelle Yeoh (the Police Stories and recently the excellent Everything Everywhere All at Once) and actors little known to the general public, the interest around this program has hardly generated any hype, especially since the Henry Cavill’s departure from the main series. It must be said that the trailers and excerpts published by Netflix over the months of a low-explosive promotional campaign have made the Internet laugh more than cause an unbearable feeling of expectation.

After months of waiting, the verdict has finally come and it is catastrophic to say the least. At the time of writing these lines, the press rating has accumulated to 38% (via an average of 24 reviews recorded), while viewers have given an average rating of 8% via a total of 889 reviews collected. As much to tell you that it is the cold shower for Netflix which probably did not expect such a crack. That said, the platform is used to disappointing productions, but The Witcher Blood Origin hits the heights in terms of disappointment. What is pointed out by everyone is its uninteresting script (while there was to do), a bland and unambitious staging, unfortunately unconvincing actors and fights of a appalling poverty. The set gives such a cheap rendering that we have the impression of returning to these fantasy series of the 90s/2000s like Xena the warrior.
