Sharing photos and other files from device to device has always been difficult. Many Android users airdrop envied the feature, but Google Nearby Share has created its own version of this feature. What is Nearby Sharing?
So what exactly is Nearby Sharing? Nearby Sharing is a feature that allows you to wirelessly share all kinds of things between Android devices. This feature allows you to share files, links, apps, photos and more. Nearby Sharing chooses the most appropriate protocol from Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy, WebRTC or peer-to-peer Wi-Fi to share your data securely and efficiently. Both the person sharing the data and the person receiving the data must accept the request, which makes the feature highly secure.
Now that you know a little more about Nearby Sharing, let’s look at how to set it up.
How to enable Nearby Sharing?
Nearby Sharing visibility in the Android Settings menu varies depending on your phone manufacturer. Here’s how you can find the feature on Samsung (and some other) phones.
- Settings Open the app.

- Use Nearby Sharing open the switch.
These instructions apply to most Android phones, but depending on your phone’s manufacturer, these instructions may differ slightly.
If you’re having trouble finding Nearby Sharing in the Settings app, you can enable this feature through the Files app.
- Google Files Open the app. If the app is not pre-installed on your device, you can download it from the Google Play Store. Google Files Download the app.

- Use Nearby Sharing open the switch.
No matter how you enabled it, you can now share files using Nearby Sharing.
How do you change your Nearby Share visibility?
Now that you’ve enabled Share Nearby, make sure you only share with the people you want.
- Settings Open the app.
- Connected devices from the menuSelect .
- Connection preferencesTap .
- Share NearbyTap .
- In the Nearby Sharing settings, tap on the words Device visibility.
- Your visibility settingsSelect .
- Everybody – Can share any Android device with you.
- Persons – Anyone with an Android device in your contacts can share with you.
- Your devices – Only devices signed in with your Google account can share with you.
Now that you’ve chosen who you want to share with, it’s time to share.
How to use Nearby Sharing to share something?
Now that you’ve enabled Nearby Sharing and changed your visibility, it’s time to start sharing. Share anything on your phone to share something with Nearby Sharing. A photo, a link, an app, anything. Just tap the share button.
- Select the item you want to share.
- Share Tap the button. Depending on the app you’re sharing More or equivalent You may have to tap a button.
- Share Nearby Tap the button.
- Select a device to share.
- When the user of the device you’re sharing with accepts the request, your item is shared with them.
- When you’re done sharing the item Finished Tap the button.

How to accept an item shared via Nearby Sharing?
What if you’re on the receiving end of a Nearby Post? Accepting a shared item is easier than sharing it.
- Nearby Sharing Wait for the notification to pop up.
- Admit it Tap the button.
You have now received an item from someone else with Nearby Sharing.
How to share an app with Nearby Sharing
Nearby Share can share apps as well as share links, photos and other files.
- Google Play StoreOpen .
- in the upper right corner to your profile picture tap.
- Manage apps and deviceSelect .
- Share apps next to the section Send Tap the button.
- Select the apps you want to share.
- Send Tap the button (paper airplane in the upper right corner).
- Select the device to send apps to.
- Once the other person approves the pairing code, they must accept the sharing request before your apps can be shared with them.
How to get an app via Nearby Share?
Sharing apps is great, but how about getting that awesome app your friend discovered?
- Google Play StoreOpen .
- in the upper right corner to your profile picture tap.
- From the list of options Manage apps and deviceTap .
- Share appsnext to GetSelect .
- Once the other person has selected your device, confirm that the pairing code matches the one on your screen and GetTap .
- When apps are sent to you, next to the apps you want to install Loadto and then Disconnect Tap the button.
