An extensive winter storm is raging in North America and around thirty people have died in connection with it, but the number is feared to rise.

Several deaths have occurred in serial collisions on icy roads, but a number of people are said to have also frozen to death in cars stuck in the snow.

The winter storm is described as historic in its scope. About 60 percent of the US population is subject to some form of weather warning.
