“How am I supposed to take this seriously?”

How am I supposed to take this seriously

Series fans love Wednesday – and rightly so. Jenna Ortega gives the cult goth character an exciting update. The Wednesday dance already belongs in the Hall of Fame of the best dance scenes of all time. In addition, Wednesday is the perfect revenge fantasy for bullied children and adults. One of the few persistent criticisms: the irritatingly silly monster.

In Season 1, Wednesday clears up a series of murders that are drawing bloody circles around the supernatural Nevermore School. That Monster is accordingly one of the most important components of the series, it reappears in episodes as well – all the more annoying is its design.

This is how Wednesday fans react to the monster

The almost cute monster in Wednesday

The monster just doesn’t look all that menacing with its exaggerated, cartoonish bulging eyes.

Why do they make the monster look so stupid in Wednesday? How am I supposed to take this seriously?

The design would not stand out in a children’s production like Scooby-Doo. It just doesn’t fit Wednesday. In the series, it hunts and kills its victims in quite brutal ways. This results in a bizarre discrepancy.

We can answer this question because there is a making-of video for the monster:

In Season 2, the series has a chance to do better

As you can see in the video above, a lot of effort went into the design. Maybe the designer just wasn’t aware of the tone of the series. It wouldn’t be the only misunderstanding in the chaotic Wednesday production.

Netflix has not yet confirmed the second season, but it’s only a matter of time. What is already certain: Tyler (Hunter Doohan), who was outed as a monster in the season finale, will return. That also means: MGM, Wednesday’s production company, can rethink the design of the monster a little and adapt it to the quite rough horror atmosphere of the rest of the series.
