A loose dog in the Hageby district of Norrköping injured three people on Christmas Eve.

Despite police patrols firing both warning shots and active fire in the hunt for the dog, they did not manage to capture it.

– We cannot rule out that it is still on the loose, says Johnny Gustafsson, press spokesperson at police region East.

During the evening of Christmas Eve, the police had to be called out when a large, black dog in Hageby attacked several people and bit them.

Among other things, the dog had bitten a woman on the hand and on the back of the body.

Several police patrols were called to the scene. When the dog suddenly came running towards the patrol, the police fired a warning shot, whereupon the dog disappeared.

– We might not have expected that we would come into such close contact with the dog when it came rushing towards one of our patrols, says Johnny Gustafsson.

“Rashed towards the police patrol”

The dog strayed from the scene. The police were given permission to euthanize it on the grounds that it could be a danger to the public. At around 8 p.m., another police patrol caught sight of the dog, which escaped a second time.

– It rushed towards the police patrol directly. Then we fired action shots at it, says Johnny Gustafsson.

Just over two hours later, the police operation ended without the dog being caught. The police can neither rule out that it was injured nor that it is still at large.

– We called off our efforts at 10 p.m. and as far as I know, we have no knowledge of the dog, says Johnny Gustafsson.

Three people injured

A total of three people were injured by the dog. It is not known which breed it is. The police urge people who see a black dog running loose to call 112.

– We are interested in whether it shows up again because it has proven to be unreliable and injured three people. It should not run loose, says Johnny Gustafsson.

The police have launched an investigation into causing bodily harm to the owner of the dog. At this time, there are no suspects.
