Family I hate you as much as I love you. This is what we live, all around the world, this is what we also say to ourselves sometimes and this is what Mai Hua lets flow in his very beautiful first narrative-documentary The rivers.
Or how May Hua, this blogger-director goes up the current of a family curse, by filming the little things of everyday life strewn with medium tragedies and immense joys. A curse stopped short by this film which tells the transgenerational healing of 4 women, after having spawned with words full of mysteries such as: Vietnam, ghosts, Alzheimer, family secret. On the menu a bit of Miyazaki, tears of Maï galore and… a drop of South Africa.
