She volunteers over Christmas: “My way of giving back”

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The Salvation Army offers a Christmas breakfast as part of the Christmas in Community initiative. The initiative is for vulnerable people who are either alone, homeless or have a hard time financially this Christmas. In addition to breakfast, you can also get a Christmas present from Santa or even get a Christmas look with a free haircut.

– It is my way of thanking the Salvation Army to volunteer in my free time because I myself received a lot of help from them, says Saadiya Ali. She is one of many volunteers on site helping out today and over the Christmas holiday.

Saadiya came to Sweden six years ago and received support and help with the language, getting her finances in order and also homework help when she did her master’s. She also says that she found her first Swedish friends through the Salvation Army and that it is therefore important for her to now give back.

– It means a lot to me to be here and also helps me to understand Swedish society and people’s habits at Christmas time. Now I’m going home and celebrating with my children, it’s their turn after this! We’re going to watch Donald Duck, laughs Saadiya.
