It turned out that the fraudsters accessed people’s accounts and shared on their behalf, thanks to a flaw in the social media site Facebook. Hackers, who share easy money making shares, defraud thousands of people in this way. Ozancan Sadık Kubilay, Technology Editor and Social Media Content Producer, who was attacked by hackers, explained the details of the issue.
“IMMEDIATELY UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD FOR ACCOUNT SECURITY”
Kubilay expressed the details of the issue as follows:
“The other day, I received a call that someone suddenly accessed my Instagram account, and when I looked after this phone call, I saw that one of the posts made when everyone was defrauded was actually made on my account. It’s like I made this much money on the stock market app service. Anyway, this is a false post, by the way, let me tell you that too. If you see this somewhere, you can directly say this is scam content, and then I started researching how this is possible even though my account has double-step verification turned on and all security measures are turned on, and I started to research how it is possible from a section of Facebook called accounts center where accounts can be accessed and other accounts are combined with other accounts and In this way, I realized that it is possible to share posts and stories from these accounts in blocks. Of course, after that, I started the necessary actions to get my account back, but the people who did this also managed to disable the double-step verification by removing the e-mail address, phone number, etc. in my account.
‘How is it?’ The most important question. When I looked at how it was, I saw that they made this access through their Facebook account, they reached my account. Therefore, there are 2-3 details that are important here. If you haven’t recently changed your Facebook account password, urgently update your password for account security. Because obviously, these accounts can be stolen and seized very easily through the accounts center.”
“LEAVE TWO-STEP VERIFICATION ON”
Kubilay stated that a few more accounts he did not recognize were linked to his Facebook account because he got his account back, and said, “The first thing I noticed when I got my account back was that there were 3 or 4 different Instagram accounts of people I didn’t know in the accounts center. This surprised me quite a bit. When I checked, I saw that I could also share stories from those people’s accounts. Of course, I canceled this thing right after. I removed this permission from the accounts center, but the people who did this were also able to access those accounts very easily. Therefore, it is very important to update your Instagram and Facebook passwords very quickly. Just leave the two-step verification open, just in case,” he said.
“HACKERS HAVE FOUND A BRAND NEW METHOD”
Emphasizing that the e-mail addresses used in social media accounts should be up-to-date, Kubilay continued:
“If you do not use the e-mail address where both your Instagram and Facebook addresses are registered, make sure to convert it to an e-mail address that you use actively. Because the e-mail address on my Facebook was an e-mail address that I haven’t looked at for a while. Therefore, there is a high probability of attacking such an account from that e-mail address. It is important that you pay attention to these issues. Because hackers or malicious people have found a brand new method. It is very important that you do this so that other people are scammed on your behalf. Because we’re not just talking about hacking an account here. We’re talking about scamming other people on your behalf here. I think it is very important for you to pay attention to this very important issue.” (UAV)
