Putin: Our goal is to end this war – not to inflame it

All armed conflicts end with diplomatic negotiations. President Vladimir Putin said this at a press conference in connection with a cabinet meeting on Thursday.

– Our goal is not to ignite a military conflict, but on the contrary, to end this war.

He used the Russian word for war, “voina” (война) – a departure from earlier usage. Since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24, Russian politicians and state-controlled media have consistently called the war of aggression a “military special operation.”

Calling Patriot “old”

Putin also commented that the US will send the Patriot air defense system to Ukraine. He called it a “quite old system” that Russia will be able to deal with.

– Those who are against us claim that this is a defense weapon. We must keep that in mind, the president said, adding that there is always an appropriate countermeasure.
