On the Chinese social network Tiktok, a “new” beauty trend has appeared. The latter would allow a good hydration of the skin to put an end to the cutaneous dryness linked to these winter temperatures. Explanations.
Making new out of old or appropriating trends that are years or even decades old: this is one of the specialties of TikTok users. We have already seen it with “Skin Cycling” and “Skin Icing”, and it continues today with “Skin Flooding”, the new technique that is driving the counters crazy on the Chinese social network.
Skin Flooding: What is it?
The objective of “Skin Flooding”: to provide the skin with a good dose of hydration to fight against the dryness associated with winter temperatures. A trick based on layering (a superposition of several layers of cosmetic products) and the notion of humidity, in order to prevent the layers of hydration from clogging the pores and subsequently generating imperfections.
“Skin Flooding”, understand “flooding of the skin”, consists, as its name suggests, in applying different layers of hydration to damp skin, to maximize the effects of each product and limit water loss, l one of the causes of dehydration. The “Skin Flooding” has so far generated very few views on TikTok, for the simple reason that we owe this name to the magazine Refinery29 who regularly tests the new beauty trends spotted on the social network. However, we find the trick in many videos under the hashtags #dryskintips or #dryskinremedies, among others.
Perfectly hydrated skin to face winter
The method varies significantly depending on the user, but in all cases, it involves applying two serums to the skin in a row, containing hyaluronic acid and niacinamide respectively. The objective is to hydrate the skin in depth, to reduce redness and feelings of tightness, and to fight against future external aggressions. Final step: the application of a thicker layer of moisturizing cream to nourish the skin on the surface. Important detail, the first serum must be applied to damp skin, not to dry completely after cleansing, for better absorption of future care.
In view of the many videos featuring this beauty routine, there are several variations. Those who wish can reinforce the ‘flooding of the skin’ with a hydrating facial mist between each step, a gesture which users say would provide a surplus of hydration. It is also possible to add a moisturizer with a sun protection factor to protect the skin from the harmful effects of UV rays.
This trend confirms the interest shown by the public, all over the world, for skincare, which resulted throughout the year 2022 in the launch of new brands articulated around natural skin care. . A phenomenon that should take on even more momentum in 2023 with the boom in holistic beauty, focused on prevention, well-being and skin health.
