The Stationsplein in Utrecht has been the scene of nuisance by various groups, including safelanders, for over a year now. These are asylum seekers who have no chance of staying in the Netherlands because their country is considered safe. After stabbing incidents, fights, intimidation, pickpocketing and shoplifting, the municipality intervened this autumn with a series of measures, including extra deployment of officers and enforcers and the possibility of imposing residence bans. Utrecht also asked for help from the government in the approach.
