The working environment at Furuviksparken under scrutiny

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

On Wednesday, the Swedish Work Environment Agency made an inspection at Furuviksparken after four chimpanzees were shot dead last week after they managed to get out of their enclosure and into the park for unknown reasons.

No direct flaws found

– We have looked at whether there are shortcomings in the work environment work that could involve risks for the staff, says work environment inspector Lena Sundstedt.

No deficiencies have been directly discovered, but the agency will now take a closer look at a large amount of material that the park handed over, including procedures and instructions.

Finger bit off

Four years ago, Furuviksparken received strong criticism from the Swedish Work Environment Authority for lack of safety. An employee had then received parts of a finger bitten off by a chimpanzee.

The Norwegian Work Environment Authority remarked that the park could not demonstrate that a risk assessment had been carried out. According to staff, the safety regulations had also not been practiced or coordinated for several years.
