Who is Johannes Boe?Johannes Boe, born on May 16, 1993 in Stryn, more than 400 kilometers northwest of Norway’s capital, Oslo, is 28 years old. Second of a family of 5 children, the young Johannes quickly took up biathlon, in the greatest Norwegian tradition, following in the footsteps of his brother Tarjei, 5 years his senior and also a professional biathlete. Precocious, Johannes Boe went on to succeed in the juniors after his debut in 2010 and won five individual titles in two seasons on the junior circuit, including three individually. The Norwegian made his debut on the professional circuit during the 2012-2013 season.
Despite good results, he had to wait until the following season to win his first success in the World Cup, during the sprint event in Grand-Bornand, France. He then participated, at the age of 20, in his first Olympic Games in Sochi, with the best result of 8th place in the mass-start. He then continued to progress, increased in power but fell on stronger than him in the general classification of the World Cup. Frenchman Martin Fourcade, star of the discipline, won the big crystal globe in the World Cup seven times in 2011 and 2018, notably after an epic duel between the two biathletes during the 2017-2018 season.
This rivalry pushes Johannes Boe to achieve perfection. The Norwegian won a gold medal at the Pyeongchang Olympics in the individual event, the only one to date. Since the 2018-2019 season, Johannes Boe has reigned over world biathlon and has won the last three big crystal globes, including twice ahead of Martin Fourcade, now retired. Even if the French Emilien Jacquelin and Quentin Fillon-Maillet seem well disposed not to let Johannes Boe rest on his laurels…
Johannes Boe has one of the finest records in the history of biathlon. At the end of the 2020-2021 season, the Norwegian had 3 Olympic medals, including one gold, 24 medals at the World Championships, including 12 titles, but also 10 crystal globes, including 3 big ones. The Norwegian has totaled 53 individual victories since his debut on the professional circuit, during the 2012-2013 season.
The biathletes share a prize money established in advance by the International Biathlon Union (IBU) and win more or less according to their performance. Obviously, those of Johannes Boe provide him with a fairly comfortable lifestyle. Thus, after another big crystal globe won during the 2020-2021 season, the Norwegian won 348,000 euros thanks to his results.
Johannes Boe has been in a relationship and married since June 30, 2018 to Hedda Kløvstad Dæhli, whom he met in the summer of 2015, three years earlier. The couple had a child, Gustav, on January 13, 2020. After a short paternity stop in the middle of the season, Johannes Boe still won the big crystal globe that season.
