Gulistan Kavak is a school counselor and writer and has grown up with two parents who are illiterate. She had to help her parents at an early age and also had to take responsibility for the family’s finances, only thirteen years old.
– When you get older, you realize what is deviant. For me it was everyday, but then at a slightly older age I understood. Others planned their birthday while I paid the bills, she says in Nyhetsmorgon.
Gulistan Kavak has now written two books with the aim of raising awareness of illiteracy. “Illiteracy – the invisible disability” and “My mother can’t read and write” which were released this December.
