The Spanish National Institute of Statistics (INE) announced that the number of people who lost their lives by suicide exceeded 4,000 for the first time in 2021.
INE reported that there was a 1.6 percent increase in suicide cases in 2021 compared to 2020, and that the number of people who ended their lives on their own initiative was 4,03.
INCREASED AFTER COVID
It was noted that there was a serious increase in suicide cases in Spain, especially after Kovid-19.
In the country, 3,539 people committed suicide in 2018, 3 thousand 617 people in 2019, and 3 thousand 941 people in 2020.
It was reported that 2 thousand 15 people committed suicide in the first 6 months of 2022, an increase of 5.1% compared to the same period of 2021.
INE shared the information that suicide ranks second among unnatural deaths in the 15-29 age group.
Founded in Spain, the “Platform to Stop Suicide” held a demonstration in the capital Madrid in September 2021 for the first time in the country’s history, calling for a “national plan to prevent suicide” to all political parties in the parliament. (AA)
