Terminator: Dark Fate should have been a box office hit. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton return as franchise veterans, and a gripping story brings a fresh spin to the sci-fi blockbuster. However, the film failed miserably in cinemas. Producer James Cameron knows why.
James Cameron names two culprits for the failure of the sci-fi blockbuster
He told Deadline:
The problem was that I refused it without Arnold [Schwarzenegger] close. and [Regisseur] Tim Miller then wanted Linda [Hamilton]. [Einen der beiden] the film would have survived. But she’s 60 plus, he’s 70 plus and suddenly it wasn’t your Terminator movie or your father’s, it was your grandfather’s Terminator movie. We didn’t see that coming.
Cameron also stated at the beginning been unenthusiastic about the project to be. Even director Miller now regrets the sci-fi catastrophe. The critical echo was above average, if not outstanding (via Metacritic).
There are many fans who only really appreciate the first two Terminator films. Indeed, since 1984’s first Terminator, there have been a number of questionable moments in franchise history. Terminator: Dark Fate isn’t actually one of them. Nevertheless, he may have buried the series.
