KD tops in the north disappointed with the electricity price support

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

M, KD, L and SD went out together in the election campaign and promised a high-cost protection for households and companies against the high electricity prices by November 1 at the latest.

The right side won the election, the Tidö Agreement was concluded and Ulf Kristersson became prime minister. But the exact election promise of a high-cost protection has not been fulfilled.

Instead, Energy Minister Ebba Busch (KD) has presented an electricity price subsidy that households will receive in February next year. The support is based on costs from last winter, which means that consumers in northern Sweden may not take part in the support now. In recent weeks, however, electricity prices in the north have skyrocketed.

The fact that the support will not be paid out until February and that northern Sweden will now be without support has led to disappointment for Stig Töyrä, chairman of the Christian Democrats in Norrbotten.

– If you promise something, you should keep it, I think, even for my party, he says to Svenska Dagbladet.

“Should have designed the system more fairly”

Henrik Sendelbach, group leader for the Christian Democrats in the Västernorrland region, believes that it is important to deliver now.

– There will always be someone who is not satisfied, but fundamentally I think that the system should have been designed more fairly towards us in northern Sweden. Right now it’s very cold, so it doesn’t really feel good, he tells SvD.

In southern Sweden, the criticism is not as harsh. The Skåne KD regional council per Einarsson believes that party leader and energy minister Ebba Busch is struggling to find a good way forward.

He tells SvD that he is not “completely satisfied” with the electricity price support, but that at the same time he did not expect it to be in place on November 1 as previously promised.

SVT has sought the Christian Democrats’ party leader and energy minister Ebba Busch for a comment.
