Five children dead after house fire in France

Ten people have died in a fire in an apartment building in Lyon, France. The fire has ravaged a seven-storey residential building in the Vaulx-en-Velin district, in eastern Lyon. The fire broke out at three o’clock Friday night, the authorities say. Among the confirmed deaths so far are at least five children. Four people have received injuries described as critical or life-threatening. A further number of people have received other injuries. It is still unknown what caused the fire, writes the department’s head of Rhône in a press release. 170 firefighters initially responded to the first alarms. The fire broke out on the ground floor and then spread upwards in the house, floor by floor, a firefighter tells BFM TV. Hear more about the event in the player above.
