Germany today inaugurated its first liquefied natural gas terminal, intended for import via ship. The terminal is one of several facilities that will enable the direct import of the gas to Germany.
The terminals are expected to eventually deliver 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year to the German energy system, and will compensate for reduced imports from Russia, reports AFP.
Germany has previously used e.g. Belgian and French ports for importing the gas. The new facility is located next to the town of Wilhelmshaven.
