  • The chimpanzees opened the windows themselves

Furuviksparken has this week shot dead or injured most of its chimpanzees. Photo: Fredrik Sandberg/TT & Furuviksparken/Parks and Resorts

The chimpanzees at Furuviksparken were on their way out through an open window when they were shot.

That’s what the park’s CEO Sandra Wilke says Swedens radio.

    – There have been a lot of open windows from the building, and it is there when the animal has been on its way out that we have shot and then Santino and Manda have rolled in. Then they moved a little, so they moved on, but we haven’t been able to see in there, she says.

According to her, the chimpanzees opened the windows themselves, and a door.

Four chimpanzees were shot to death: Linda, Torsten, Santino and Manda.

The monkey Selma was also shot, but survived.

Wilke defends the decision to shoot the chimpanzees.

    – When they come out into the park, it is a life-threatening danger for people. They don’t need many seconds to get out of the park.

UN human rights chief Volker Türk is very concerned that Elon Musk kicked several journalists out of Twitter.

He says Twitter has a responsibility to respect human rights.

    – Elon Musk should commit to making decisions based on general guidelines that respect human rights, including freedom of expression, he writes.

In November, Türk wrote an open letter to Musk expressing his concerns about Twitter’s future.

  • Shanghai covid closes schools

Teaching at most schools in China’s largest city, Shanghai, is moving online, reports say BBC.

The reason is that corona cases in the city are increasing.

Kindergartens will also close from Monday.

Corona restrictions in China were eased earlier in December, following a wave of protests against the country’s zero-covid policy.

But this has led to growing concern about the spread of infection and how it will affect the healthcare system.

The pressure on healthcare is increasing, and in Shanghai alone an additional 230,000 hospital beds have been created.

  • Crisis at the Swedish Transport Administration after the system change

Last weekend the Swedish Transport Administration replaced its train planning system.

It has led to chaos among the staff who work with train traffic planning. According to the union, many are “stressed out and crying”.

Since the new system was put into use, over 400 errors and deficiencies have been reported, writes DN.

    – It is unsustainable that you have to study before your work shift. Many people worry that they will make a mistake and that it will lead to an accident. Whether it could happen in reality is difficult to say, but they experience it that way, says Charlotte Olsson, president of the trade union Seko, to the newspaper.

According to the union, there is a risk of sick leave or people quitting.

Bengt Olsson, press manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, tells DN that they tried to solve the problems by deploying extra staff. They have also had several meetings after the staff’s alarm.

  • Mass crash in Malmö

A mass crash has occurred at the Bulltofta traffic stop in Malmö on Saturday, reports say SVT News Skåne.

The road in the direction of Rosengård is completely closed. Around six to seven cars must have “collapsed”, according to the Southern Rescue Service.

Ambulance, police and rescue services are on site.

The extent of the damage is unclear, but an ambulance is on its way to the scene.

  • Electricity prices are falling throughout the country

The price of electricity will drop throughout Sweden on Sunday, according to figures from the electricity exchange Nord Pool, writes TT.

In the two northern electricity areas, 1 and 2, electricity is traded on Sunday for 87 öre per kilowatt hour. This compares with SEK 1:33 per kilowatt-hour, which is the price on Saturday.

In southern Sweden, the price drops to SEK 1:94 per kilowatt hour, from SEK 2:66 on Saturday.

The price is often lower on the weekend because many industries are at a standstill then.

  • The reactor is started up earlier than planned

After the maintenance of Sweden’s largest nuclear power reactor, Oskarshamn 3, it will now be restarted, writes TT.

The launch will already take place at 4 pm this afternoon, earlier than originally said. The idea was that it would only start tomorrow.

After the reactor starts up, it takes 80 hours before it is in full effect. Oskarshamn 3 has been out of service since 9 December.

  • Fire at an oil refinery in Denmark

The fire service in Denmark has been alerted to a fire at the Crossbridge Energy oil refinery in Fredericia, reports VG. Photos from the scene show a lot of smoke.

According to police chief John Chjødt, the situation is currently under control.

    – It’s not exactly something big, but it’s a place where development can happen quickly. But they have a very professional internal fire brigade, he tells Jyllands-Posten.

Crossbridge Energy is the largest supplier of surplus heat for central heating in Denmark and writes on its website that it produces approximately 35 percent of the Danish consumption of fuel.

  • Continued search for missing in landslide

23 people died in connection with a landslide that occurred on the night of Friday, local time, in Malaysia. The search is now continuing for ten people who are still missing, writes TT.

Rescue workers with search dogs and excavators continue to search the campsite where the landslide occurred.

Around 90 people are said to have been at the Batang Kali campsite, five kilometers north of the capital, when the landslide occurred. At least seven people were admitted to hospital and at least around 50 people are said to have escaped completely unharmed.

Two people have ended up in the water in connection with a work vehicle overturning at the Skuru Bridge, the police report.

    – It seems to be about a crane truck that somehow slipped into the water, but there is no certain information, says Helena Boström Thomas, press spokesperson at the Stockholm Police.

The people must have got ashore on their own.

    – At least one of them needs to be taken to hospital with unclear injuries.

The police are on the scene to investigate the incident.

    – In cases like this, we usually look at whether it could be a work environment violation, says Helena Boström Thomas.
