Australia won the WC gold in a time of 1.42.35, a new world record. Six hundredths ahead of the USA – and eight ahead of Sweden, that is.
In other words: a gasp-hugging finale.
— It was so damn close. I think I had it until the last five meters, says Michelle Coleman, who swam the last stretch, to SVT and continues:
— It’s fantastic, we put in a great performance as a whole team and everyone lifts themselves up.
Klara Thormalm, as swimming the second leg, to SVT:
— It’s absolutely fantastic, it feels so good.
The medal was Sweden’s second in the short course WC in Melbourne and it came the day after the first, a medal that Louise Hansson swam home (bronze in the 100 meter medley).
Hansson swam the first leg of the team race and collected his second championship medal. The third leg was swum by Sara Junevik.
