Definition: what is Dexeryl?
Dexeryl® is a emollient and moisturizing cream based on petroleum jelly, paraffin and glycerol. It is packaged in tubes of 50 or 250 g. “It is intended to treat dermatological conditions causing skin dryness more or less extensive. Dexeryl should be applied in a thin layer on the affected surface on average twice a day“, says Dr. Nina Roos.
When to use Dexeryl?
Dexeryl® has an action on various dermatological lesions. It can be used in case of:
- Sunburn
- burns superficial and small
- Eczema atopic or dermatitis atopic
- Skin irritation like burning, itching sensations
- Dartre
- ictyosis
- Psoriasis
- After a tattoo
What are the benefits of Dexeryl on eczema?
According to one study clinical trial conducted in 2018 on children aged 2 to 6 suffering from mild to moderate atopic dermatitis, twice-daily application of this treatment for 3 months spaces out eczema attacks and reduces itching by 10.
Can you get Dexeryl without a prescription?
This product is available in pharmacy. Dexeryl tube is available without prescription and since 2016, it is no longer reimbursed by health insurance.
What are the side effects of Dexeryl?
Dexeryl may cause slight itching at the time of its application. “Of the allergic reactions may also occur, such as redness at the application site, hives, irritation, itching“, says Dr. Roos.
