The loss of life is increasing in the landslide that occurred at the camp site in the Batang Kali district of Selangor state, north of Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur. Officials stated that the number of people who lost their lives due to the landslide increased to 21, while 14 people were missing and search and rescue efforts were continuing in the region.
CAMPING AREAS CLOSED
Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Local Government and Development, has ordered that all “high-risk” campsites located near rivers, waterfalls and slopes across Malaysia be closed for 7 days, saying the campsite is operating illegally.
SEARCH WORK CONTINUES
District police chief Suffian Abdullah said that an estimated 94 people were in the area at the time of the landslide. Search and rescue efforts continue with more than 700 personnel, including track dogs. (UAV)
