JongGras matches Dutch students with newcomers in the same age group. Together they look for a suitable sport in the city. It is not the only buddy project of the Academy of the City organisation. For example, ‘Hospiteer Buddies’ are also deployed, whereby students help beneficiaries to find a home. “That is still a challenge at this time”, acknowledges Emy Kenters of the Academy of the City.
The organization has set itself the goal of guiding 40 status holders to a sports club every year. The buddies can help them with this, for example by introducing them to fun sports clubs and helping them a little with administrative issues. “And it just has to be fun,” says Kenters. “Many status holders already have so much to do with professional organizations in their lives. Their buddy is also there for the friendly bond.”
