The EU agreed on billions in aid to Ukraine

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The EU summit on Thursday evening finally landed in heavy agreements after long discussions. Late in the evening, everything became clear for billions in aid to Ukraine and new sanctions against Russia. Surprisingly good results, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson thought at a late press conference.

– Just the fact that it is a quarter to eleven (10.45 pm) and not a quarter to three (02.45 am) is a sign that things have gone incredibly much faster than anyone could have expected, says the Prime Minister.

At the same time as the summit was going on, the ambassadors of the EU countries negotiated a ninth package of sanctions against Russia. Poland pressed for these and previous sanctions not to be undermined due to exceptions, which other member states wanted.

Agreement on the sanctions package was finally reached on Thursday. Exact details are not yet known and formally everything will only become clear during Friday. The meeting ended at 22:00 on Thursday evening, after the leaders had been sitting together since the morning.

– Now it’s about drones, to take very current examples, there are some new banks, some new television companies, these are the kinds of things you move on with, says Kristersson.
