Tokyo’s Nikkei 225 index was down 1.3 percent in early trade and the broader Topix index followed suit, falling 1 percent in the open.
In Hong Kong, the decline was a little more cautious, with the Hang Seng Index retreating 0.1 percent. Shanghai’s composite index lost 0.4 percent and Shenzen was down 0.6 percent.
