At a press meeting in June, the Moderates’ economic policy spokesperson Elisabeth Svantesson said that the party wants to lower the price of diesel, by lowering the so-called reduction obligation to the EU’s minimum level. The Sweden Democrats went even further and promised ten kroner less.
But in the 2023 budget, the reduction became only a fraction of the promise.
Now reveals Today’s news that the government may be forced to back away from the promise of the reduction obligation, as they have quietly begun to investigate a mere marginal reduction – which is far from the promised reduction.
The reason is that if the reduction obligation is reduced as much as promised, Sweden violates the EU’s emission requirements. In that case, it would cost the government many billions.
