In Greece, a preliminary investigation was launched this Thursday, December 15 by the Athens financial prosecutor’s office against Eva Kaïlí, for “corruption” and “money laundering”. Currently imprisoned in Brussels, the 44-year-old MEP is at the heart of a sulphurous corruption scandal allegedly linked to Qatar. Before being potentially completed, the Greek procedure must nevertheless await the conclusions of the ongoing Brussels investigation.

Repeat again. After Belgian justice, it is now the turn of Greek justice to take an interest in the MEP – and now ex-vice-president of the European Parliament – Eva Kaïlí.
The preliminary investigation which has just been launched from Athens is not an isolated Greek procedure, on the contrary it is being carried out in full cooperation with Brussels.
The investigation was initiated by the financial prosecutor Christos Bardakis, who entrusted the investigation to two assistant prosecutors. It is up to them to investigate this case of alleged corruption, involving the emirate of Qatar.
To do this, Athens therefore requires the help of Brussels to obtain copies of documents relating to the case and to be kept informed of its progress.
From a legal point of view, however, the Greek investigation will not be completed if Eva Kaïlí is prosecuted by the Belgian courts for similar charges.
Proof of the strong judicial pressure now weighing on Eva Kaïlí, the Greek Anti-Money Laundering Authority for its part already announced at the beginning of the week the freezing of all the property of the elected socialist.
