INSEE predicts a drop in industrial production due to the

How is the French economy doing at the end of 2022? Insee unveiled this Thursday, December 15 the main lines of its forecasts for the end of the year and for the beginning of 2023. The institute confirms that inflation stabilized in November in the country. But in this context of rising prices, particularly for energy, how are companies faring? According to INSEE, industrial production should fall by 1.5%, directly linked to the cost of energy.

Faced with the rise in energy prices, there is, according to the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (Insee), some resistance from industrial companies.

However, the energy crisis is there, and the remarkable rise in prices. Industrial companies suffered on average in 2022 a 75% increase in the price of electricity, 114% for gas, and the institute is quite pessimistic for the year to come.

But the main question is how companies react to this increase. A large majority of them, 66%, plan to pass on the rise in energy prices to their selling prices, followed by those who will choose to cut back on their margins.

Where this is rather good news, according to INSEE, is that ultimately only 7% of companies plan to reduce the airfoil and barely 1% of them are forced to completely stop their activity. .

Result: the drop in industrial production directly linked to energy prices is estimated at 1.5% in France. A significant drop, of course, but a certain resilience, in a context, INSEE reminds us, very complicated.
