17 dead from illegal liquor in India
At least 17 people have died and 20 are being treated in hospital in the Indian state of Bihar after drinking illegally produced liquor.
The deaths occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday in three villages in the state, which has banned the sale and consumption of alcohol since 2016.
According to police information, several of the 20 treated in hospital have lost their sight.
Deaths caused by illegally produced alcohol are common in India, where the home-brewed liquor is often cheap and laced with various chemicals to make it more intoxicating.
